In this lesson we will look at mass audience theory and the effect of the media on audiences. You will research incidents where the film industry has been blamed for the behaviour of audience members and we will have a debate about film censorship.

End of Film Shoot
Tuesday is the last official day of your film shoot.
You have had 10 days with the cameras to film all the scenes relevant to your movie opening. This is ample time if you are well motivated and well organised.
However, if there have been problems and they do happen from time to time you will need to make the case for an extension and agree with me a new deadline.
There is also the possibility for you to come in and edit/shoot pick-up shots (additional material to enhance your film) on Thur/Fri of the half term.
YOU MUST BRING ALL EQUIPMENT WITH YOU TUESDAY TO BE SIGNED IN - EVEN IF YOU ARE HOPING TO BORROW IT AGAIN.
Also, I would like you to bring in all the magazines lent out a couple of week ago, again to ensure I kn ow who has what.

FILM SHOOT
All your film shoots should be up and running by now. If you haven't already filmed some or all of your opening, you should have film the bulk of it before the end of the week. The cameras are due to be returned next Tuesday the 7th of February and I will expect you all to be in this class.
This Friday is also a planned class when I will expect you in with your cameras to upload anything you have filmed and we will review your work.
If you are having any difficulties please see me asap.

FIRST WEEK
Week One
Film Openings:
As you are aware the priority for you during your first week back is to ensure that your preparations for the end of January film shoot are well underway and that you will be able to complete these during the two week shooting window.
You should have very clear ideas of what you are going to film, where, when and how it will look and sound. Storyboards should be complete, casting should be underway, you should all know your locations, have developed lists of props, costumes and make-up requirements, equipment for filming including lights and cameras. I cannot stress strongly enough how vital these preparations are and how positive the effect of them will be on your final product.
On Friday therefore each group will have a 10 minute production meeting with me to run through what they have done and what they need to do before the shoot. After this meeting it will be up to you as time in class will be devoted to the next area of exam preparation.
C1 IMAC BOOKINGS
You are able to work in C1 any afternoon after school except Wed and all the iMacs are bookable. Please see me for further information.

HOME LEARNING
- This week it will involve two elements:
- Completing Film preparations following on from production meeting: all of this to be posted on your film blog - if you do not have access to this you will have to ensure that you do be next week. Blog levels - along with the results of your pre-christmas mock will be given next week. Those whose blogs I cannot access or who have not updated will be marked accordingly.
- Film Industry research topic relating to Section B of the exam in which we will be concentrating on the relationship between Audience and Institution in the Film Industry with a focus on UK films. The key texts you will need to study for this are: Media Magazine (remember you can access this using the login previously advised) and the Film Industry section of your course handbook.

Presentation on Tuesday
This Tuesday you will be presenting the advertising strategy for your film to the class in a five minute presentation.
It should include, at a minimum:
- An audience profile for your film. (Who is going to watch it?)
- An advertising strategy (How are you going to advertise it?)
- A publicity stunt (A public event to advertise your film.)
All of these are hypothetical. You don't actually need to carry out your advertising or publicity stunt, so think big!
5 minutes can be a long time to present, so make your presentation interesting! Use images and videos, and consider asking the audience to take part.
You should use Prezi. Tutorials are available on the site.
This is Mr. Curran's last lesson. No boring presentations please!

FOUNDATION PORTFOLIO
A few important dates that I thought you should be aware of.
All groups will have access to the following equipment during these weeks ONLY and you should be planning your film openings accordingly.
Also available subject to insurance, transport, storyboard and schedule:
- AS PRODUCTION WEEK 1
- 24th - 30th January
- AS PRODUCTION WEEK 2
- 31st January - 6th February
All groups will have access to the following equipment during these weeks ONLY and you should be planning your film openings accordingly.
- Equipment list:
- Canon Camcorder with SD card, charger and bag
- Tripod
- LED light and charger
You are welcome to use your own camera facilities BUT you must ensure that the material which you film/record is uploaded to an iMacs in C1.
Also available subject to insurance, transport, storyboard and schedule:
- green screen facilities
- croma key facilities in Heart
- dolly and tracks (2 kits)
- additional lighting
Although we have been focussing a lot recently in my lessons on representations, it is a given that you should be working independently on your FOundation Portfolios and preparing for the film shoots next January and February.
Editing and Sound post-production
- Editing will be on the iMacs in C1 and in order to achieve a good grade you will need to spend several hours after school. This all counts towards your final grade and is justified in my mark. From January therefore a booking sheet will be available for the iMacs.
- Sound post production does require some special mention as it is one of the nest ways to improve your grade. Recording sound effects, writing music and enhancing the sound of the film is a vital part of the process and there are some additional resources in the Heart which we will be making available for this.
In the meantime, it is essential that you all continue to work on your Portfolios and to update them with the research and planning tasks you have undertaken to date. Also ensure that I have been invited to the blog or I shan't be able to advise.
